It was Deb's first date since her divorce. She met the man online, as so many people do these days, and after a couple weeks of correspondence, they decided to meet for dinner. He was perfectly pleasant. Polite, funny, relaxed. Nothing like her ex-husband, Chris. But no matter how hard she tried to enjoy the moment, to enjoy the date, the memories overtook her. She thought of her first date with Chris, so many years ago, right in this very restaurant. The memory was so strong, the nostalgia so consuming, that when she looked at the man across the table, all she saw was Chris. The new man sensed she wasn't ready to move on, and after he left, Deb sat at the table for a long time, staring at the empty chair.
